Skip Hanson was a special athlete in the late 1950s and early 1960s, leading his FA football, golf, basketball, and track teams to great success. Skip was a captain and a great team leader, and he continued to serve as a role model as a coach and administrator after his playing days were over. His basketball coaching career started at FA in 1974, and he coached the boys’ team for the next seven seasons. His teams won 36 consecutive regular-season games between 1974-1976, culminating with FA’s only state basketball championship in 1975. He remained at FA as athletic director and assistant principal and even coached the girls’ basketball team in 1980. Skip then moved on to PCHS and later Waterville High school to continue his administrative career.
