Laura Taylor Apitz: Class of 1987

Laura’s mother Nancy accepted on her behalf

Laura was a three-sport star during her years at Foxcroft Academy. She was an All-Conference field hockey player who was instrumental in her team’s Eastern Maine runner-up finish as a senior. She anchored Coach Ken Grant’s frontcourt in basketball and as in field hockey helped lead her team to an Eastern Maine runner-up finish. She was named an honorable mention selection in the Bangor Daily News All-State team after her senior year. As dominant as she was in field hockey and basketball, Laura may have been most impressive on the track. Her long strides helped her set two school records that still stand today–one in the 200 meter dash and the other as a member of the 4×400 meter relay team that set a state Class C record. After high school, Laura took her talents to the University of New England, where she was a basketball standout.
