Foxcroft Academy Playoff Weekend Review….State Championship Edition

November 4, 2019

FA Field Hockey with the 2019 Class C State Championship trophy

What a weekend of sports for Foxcroft Academy teams.  Three playoff games.  Two wins.  Lots of memories!

FA Junior Maranda Poulin

The Foxcroft Academy Field Hockey team capped off an undefeated season, winning the 2019 Class C State Championship, 3-0, over the defending state champ Winthrop High School.  Maranda Poulin had a game players dream of as she scored all three of the Ponies’ goals, one in the first half and two in the second half.  Foxcroft finishes the season with an 18-0 record, winning 15 of their 18 games via shutout.  FA Goalie Abbie Moore only gave up three goals all year long.  It’s the first state title win since 2013.  A video recap of the game can be seen on the Foxcroft Academy Youtube Channel!  Go here to view, and please like and subscribe to the page.  Congratulations to Coach Smith, Coach Rublee, and the whole team!

FA Freshman Caden Crocker

Also this weekend, the FA Football team went on the road to defeat #4 Houlton in the Class D quarterfinals, 46-14.  The Ponies trailed 14-6 midway through the second quarter but proceeded to score the 30 unanswered points.  Junior captain, Logan Martin, scored five times (two special teams TD’s, two interception returns TD’s, and a TD catch).  Foxcroft did see the season come to an end the following week as the Ponies lost to Bucksport in the Class D semifinals, 49-12.  FA finishes the season with a 4-6 record, but with a young team, the Ponies are building for future success.

FA Junior Alexis Fidalgo

The FA Boys Soccer teams saw their season come to an end, falling to #3 MDI, 3-0 in the Class B semifinals.  The Ponies (9-8) had a great playoff run, knocking out #7 Waterville in the play-in round and #2 Winslow in the quarterfinals, before falling to the Trojans.

So if you went to all the games this weekend, it would have been well over 500 miles of traveling around the State of Maine.   Our teams represented our school and the community with great respect.  Congratulations to all of our teams on a great fall season.  Before you know it, winter sports will be here, so hang on!  Ride on Ponies!
