On Saturday, June 22nd, Dover Foxcroft held the 2019 Maine Whoopie Pie Festival filled with pies and food, as well as many family activities and entertainment. The fun-filled day began at 8 am with the Piscataquis Regional YMCA “Earn Your Whoopie Pie” Race/walk. Later, the “Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs” event began, where kids could fish for free at Kiwanis Park. A book sale was held at the Thompson Free Library, and the Dover Cove Farmers Market was held down the street.
At 10 am, the festival officially began, as kids and parents gathered to try some of the best whoopie pies in the country. Activities for kids were held and sponsored in the “Kids Zone” by Varney’s Agency, as the adults observed the live music and countless vendors. The youth, teen, and adult whoopie pie eating contests commenced soon after. Overall, the day was a success, filled with lots of fun and plenty of whoopie pies.
Among the sea of booths and stands at the 10th annual Maine Whoopie Pie Festival, the Foxcroft Academy field hockey team represented with one of their own. They sold headbands and various hair accessories among other items, as well as a raffle for a blanket, chair, and cooler. Also offered were face painting and temporary tattoos in exchange for donations. The team is raising money for summer camps to help prepare them for the upcoming season. With the money they garner, they hope to attend the Majestix field hockey camp at Colby College and the All American Field Hockey camp in Dover Foxcroft.
