During Monday morning assembly, FA students were treated to our annual Flag Ceremony. During the ceremony, students were able hear more about the countries represented in our hallways this year. For school year 2017-18, over 20 countries are represented by over 500 students and faculty members. Here is what our students and staff had to say about their countries:
Armenia – Hello, my name is Anna Barseghyan and I am representing Armenia. Armenia was the first Christian country.
China – Hello, my name is Jinlin “Wayne” Chen and I am representing China.
Czech Republic – Hello, my name is Anna Barseghyan. The city of Prague, in the Czech Republic, is the most used city for shooting movies in the world.
Dominican Republic – Hello, my name is Yureily Contreras and I am representing the Dominican Republic. We share an island with Haiti.
Ecuador – Hello, my name is Luis Ayala, Mr.Ayala. I am representing the country of Ecuador. Ecuador is one of only two countries in South America that does not share a border with Brazil.
Egypt – Hello, my name is Youssef El Dieb and I am representing Egypt. The black on the Egyptian flag represents oppression, red represents the bloody struggle against oppression, and the white is symbolic of a bright future.
El Salvador – Hello, my name is Mirna Reyes-Henderson, Miss.Henderson. I am representing the country of El Salvador. There are more than 20 volcanoes in El Salvador, two of which are active.
France – Hello, my name is Leo. I am representing the country of France. Kilts originated in France, not Scotland.
Germany – Hello, my name is Helena Salzmann and I am representing Germany. We host Oktober Fest, which is the largest festival in the world. It goes on for three weeks.
Ghana – Hello, my name is Nick Danso-Adjei and I am representing Ghana.
Hong Kong – Hello, my name is Tsz-Wa “Ashley” Yeung and I am representing Hong Kong. Hong Kong has the first Disneyland that was built in Asia.
Indonesia – Hello, my name is Sekton and I am representing Indonesia. Indonesia has over 350 languages.
Jamaica – Hello, my name is Shadane Hamilton and I am representing Jamaica. Jamaica was the first country in the western world to construct a railway.
Japan – Hello, my name is Kazuyuki Kawashima. I am representing the country of Japan. Japan is made up of 6,825 islands.
Kazakhstan – Hello, my name is Aida Abdykashova. I am representing Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan is the 9th largest country by area, but only has one person per square kilometer.
Korea – Hello, my names is Goeun “Sue” Kim. I am representing the country of South Korea. In South Korea, when a baby is born, they are one year old.
Norway – Hello, my name is Martin Aagaard, and I will be representing Norway. The cheese slicer was invented in Norway.
Poland – Hello, my name is Maciej Nowak, and I will be representing Poland. Copernicus was Polish.
Singapore – Hello my name is Dayita Durachman and I am representing Singapore. Singapore is one of three surviving city-states in the world.
Sweden – Hello, my name is Daniel Rihtnesberg and I am representing Sweden. In Sweden it doesn’t get above 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
Vietnam – Hello, my name is Long Bui. I am representing the country of Vietnam. Vietnam is the world’s largest exporter of cashews.
USA – Hello, my name is Jenna Clukey. I am representing the United States of America. We have the largest population of boarding students of any country in the world.
