Meghan Keane Receives MPA Award

Mrs. Vandy E. Hewett, Head of School at Foxcroft Academy, announces Meghan L. Keane, daughter of Gary and Terri Keane of Dover-Foxcroft, as the recipient of the 2010 MPA Principal's Award.  This award, sponsored by the Maine Principals' Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior's academic achievement and citizenship. 

Throughout her years at Foxcroft Academy, Meghan has distinguished herself in the classroom, on athletic teams, and as a leader in the school and community.  She has participated in field hockey, basketball, and tennis for all four years and was chosen as a captain of the field hockey and basketball teams during her senior year.  Meghan was recently selected as a member of the Maine McDonald’s Academic All State Basketball Team.  She is a member and Treasurer of the National Honor Society and is also the Student Council President and Senior Class Vice-President.  Meghan has been a member of the Spanish Club and was chosen as the Maine Youth Leadership Delegate and a Girls’ State Delegate.  Following graduation, Meghan plans to attend college and major in Biology. 

Meghan and Mrs. Hewett and other award winners and their principals will attend an Honors Luncheon at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor on Saturday, April 3, 2010.  The Honors Luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler.  Mr. McGowan and Mr. Tyler were former Maine principals and executive directors of the Association.  The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 140 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
